As we get closer to the holidays, binge drinking is expected to increase significantly.

On average, 13 percent of metro Atlanta adults report excessive drinking, but some counties may feel the "spirit" more than others, according to County Health Rankings and Roadmaps.

The organization determined the percentage of adults in each county that report binge or heavy drinking. Fulton County’s percentage (highest) is more than twice that of Douglas (lowest).

Metro Atlanta counties with highest percentage of excessive drinking:

10. Douglas, 8 percent

9. Clayton, 10 percent

T8. Fayette, 13 percent

T8. Henry, 13 percent

T8. Rockdale, 13 percent

T5. Gwinnett, 15 percent

T5. DeKalb, 15 percent

T3. Cherokee, 16 percent

T3. Cobb, 16 percent

1. Fulton, 18 percent

<<Most Atlantans don't know the legal limit for drunk driving>>

Although binge drinking is often associated with college students, 70 percent is attributed to adults 26 years and older, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta.

Additionally, it is more common in households with incomes of $75,000 or more.
