Throughout Atlanta, high school students have enjoyed what may have been their final rite of passage in high school -- the prom. Here is a look at some of the top prom dresses and trends from 2016, according to Von Maur representative Vanessa Igel.

Teenage girls from around Atlanta donned all kinds of outfits at this year's prom from embroidered bodice gowns with a high neckline to trendy two piece outfits.

One popular look is the mermaid gown from Von Maur's City Triangles Junior collection.

The sweetheart neckline is accented by panels of lace and contrasting mesh outlines that can really pop on the dance floor. Mermaid dresses are the one look that always seems to pass the test of time for teenagers going to the prom because they allow young women to show off their shoulders in a formal and modern manner.

Another popular look this season, were two-piece gowns and dresses with various beautiful designs and fabrications. A dress with flowery design ($208), one in white ($132) and a strappy version ($207) were big choices for promgoers seeking two-piece dresses this year. The dresses and gowns allowed for plenty of flexibility for dancing while still being well-suited for the momentous occasion.

You can shop for Von Maur prom dresses and styles here or at Von Maur, Perimeter Mall, 4400 Ashford-Dunwoody Road, Atlanta.
