June is a big month for dads, grads and the start of summer. But when it comes to deals, this year technology is stealing the show.
"There is a lot happening in June with laptops," says Louis Ramirez, senior features writer for consumer deal site Dealnews.com. "They are one of the biggest things to buy in June at a good price."
In June, Intel will introduce a new processor that is faster and uses less energy than the current Ivy Bridge processor. “When those new CPUs come out we will see a fire-sale on the current ones,” says Ramirez. In addition, Windows 8 hasn’t been selling well, which gives Microsoft incentive to drop prices as well.
All of this adds up to getting a good mainstream laptop with the works for about $249 to $300, a price Ramirez considers a steal.
Plan to see the Intel effect on Apple laptops as well. “You won’t see an Apple laptop for $300, but you may get $50 to $100 off,” says Ramirez.
June should also bring solid deals on televisions, in particular 3D technology. The industry has been pushing 3D for a long time, and as new technology enters the market in June along with new 2013 models, retailers will want to clear existing inventory, Ramirez says. Look for 55-inch 3D TVs from brands such as Samsung, Panasonic and Sharp for a little over $700.
As summer rolls around in late June, retailers will need to unload spring apparel. Look for deep discounts throughout the month, and expect a better selection this year since cooler than usual temperatures throughout spring have left retailers with more spring inventory. Many retailers will also allow you to stack coupons in May and June, which offers even better savings on spring apparel, Ramirez says.
In the area of home goods, look for the second-best discounts of the year during June. Stores such as West Elm and Pottery Barn begin offering discounts of 30 to 50 percent from Memorial Day through June, says Ramirez.
If you are looking for summer items such as patio furniture, grills and more, hold off a bit. “Wait until late August and maybe September,” says Ramirez. “That is when summer is winding down and you will be able to get the best prices on those things.”
And in the metro area, where warm weather can last well into fall, you will still get a few good months of use, even if you wait for prices to go down.
