POW
Alvin, a 5.5-month-old neutered standard Dachshund, is a sweet puppy with huge, adorable ears. This young dog will need plenty of structure and training to be his best, and will need further housebreaking assistance (crate training is recommended, and Alvin likes his crate). Dachshunds are known for their terrier-like qualities, some of which can be annoying (barking and digging) if the dog is not supervised properly. Alvin is definitely a noisy boy, so make sure your living situation can handle this (he would not be recommended for apartment living). Alvin will need daily walks and good, positive leadership to know where he fits in your “pack.” The Atlanta Humane Society has training and behavior programs to help you. His family will need to help him maintain a healthy weight, as long-bodied dogs suffer cervical problems if they are allowed to become overweight. Alvin has lived with other dogs and enjoys playing with them, and is affectionate with adult humans. Research the breed and come bring the whole family to meet this cute pup. Alvin will not be a large dog when grown, but he is not a miniature Dachshund. Alvin is up-to-date on his puppy vaccinations (though he will need more shots in the upcoming weeks) and has been microchipped and dewormed. He will be available at 2 p.m. today at the Atlanta Humane Society, 981 Howell Mill Road, N.W. Sealed bids will be accepted starting at 10 a.m. if more than one party is interested. Please note that the highest bidder must meet adoption qualifications. Look at all our available pets at www.atlantahumane.org.
