Leslie McCoy’s ideal home was a ranch — not a midcentury ranch, but new construction. Two-story homes were prominent, though, in the new Gwinnett County neighborhoods where she searched.
“Looking for a ranch and new build I thought was going to be impossible,” she said.
With a baby on the way, she and her husband were determined to find a one-level home after living in a condo in Suwanee with lots of stairs. She was almost swayed by a two-story model home in a new Buford community, before she learned Edward Andrews Homes offered a ranch-style layout, too.
Once they moved in, Leslie, a salon owner, spun ideas from Pinterest to fit her preference for modern, industrial, rustic and Old World-style decor.
“It’s kind of like hair,” she said. “When you have the eye for it, it just kind of translates into other things as far as creativity and seeing it in a different light.”

Favorite interior design elements: Quartz countertops, gray and white palette, shiplap and Carrara marble used on the fireplace and hearth, and frameless shower in the master bathroom.
Favorite kid-friendly features: The mudroom bench made by Rob McCoy, with hooks for book bags and purses, hats and jackets, a bench and a basket that holds dog toys. Leslie McCoy also selected microfiber fabric for the living room couch, because it's easy to clean. She purchased personalized bedding from Carousel Designs with Lincoln's name written in script.
Favorite collections: Art glass vases and pottery from festivals, such as the annual Atlanta Dogwood Festival and the annual Yellow Daisy Festival at Stone Mountain Park. "My parents have always been collectors of art and antiques," she said. "I really love the art glass vases because of the colors that can come through. It makes it unique."
