Robert and Stacy Vevoda tested out Serenbe’s pastoral setting for about a year-and-a-half by renting before building in its new Swann Ridge hamlet. The English-inspired cottages are connected by an enchanting footbridge, which can be viewed from the Vevodas’ home in the community south of Atlanta.
Inspired by a photo that their daughter, Lauren, saw in Architectural Digest, the couple worked with the builder and designer to bring the Old World-style aesthetic into their home. Defining elements are arches in the home and a special kitchen ceiling, which has a half-barrel vault design made of reclaimed wood beams and brick.
“It was fun to each day go and see what was being created,” Stacy said.

Residents: Robert and Stacy Vevoda
Location: Serenbe neighborhood in Chattahoochee Hills. When Robert, an executive in the recreational products industry, began working for a company in Carrollton, Stacy said her first question was: "Can we live in Serenbe?"
Size: 2,900 square feet, four bedrooms, three-and-a-half baths
Year built/bought: 2015
Builder: Martin Dodson
Interior designer: Hope Vanzant of HMS Designs
Architectural style: Old World. "That's the nice thing about Serenbe. Everybody definitely has their own different style," she said.
Favorite architectural elements: The presence of archways in the home and on the screened porch, and arch details, such as a half-barrel vault kitchen ceiling. Mahogany arched doors lead into the pantry/laundry room.
Interior design style: English cottage
Favorite interior design elements: While the home has new and antique furniture and floral arrangements from Botanica at Scott Antique Market, a favorite design element is the kitchen hood. A California craftsman, Eric Montgomery of the Metal Shoppe, hand sanded stainless steel and oxidized it with an acid wash to create the unique patina for the hood, over the 48-inch professional range. The straps are sanded stainless steel. "I worked very hard to find someone to make that for me," Stacy said. The design of the hood's stainless steel rivets is mimicked in the border of the glass tile backsplash below.
Design consultants: Traditions in Tile, Ferguson (lighting, plumbing and appliances), CWP Cabinetry
Resources: Furniture from RH (formerly Restoration Hardware), Circa Antiques, Thos. Baker, World Market
Paint colors: Sherwin-Williams' Mindful Gray (kitchen, dining and great room), Anew Gray (master bedroom), Bittersweet Stem (guest bedroom)
Decor tip: To add a design element in a bathroom, use part of the space behind the tub to inlay mosaic tile.
