The stone front exterior and cedar shake roof on J.T. and Lisa Rieves’ Vinings home exude French country charm, but the water views and 1.2-acre property hooked the couple.

“The back is really the draw because it sits right on the lake,” Lisa said. “It’s so private. You’re minutes from everything, but you’re tucked right here in this little nook.”

The family moved in this year and is celebrating the holidays in the home, which is decorated with greenery inside and out, three Christmas trees and ornaments, and accessories from the past.

Architectural style: Classical French country

Favorite architectural features: The rounded doors, plus the open beams in the kitchen and living area

Interior design style: Simplistic comfort layered with aged textures, as described by Lisa. "This is what my style, I guess, has always looked like," she said. "It fit perfectly in this house, which was so awesome. It was so wonderful to move in and put in your stuff and have it look like you've been here for 10 years."

Design consultants: Chris Hutcheson helped the Rieveses select the paint colors and fabric choices. Mary Jo McCutcheon was the "mastermind" behind all the Christmas decorations, Lisa said. Craig Mixon of Orange House Interiors made all the window treatments and shower curtains. Frederick Knight at Georgia Harvest Tables in Cartersville crafted the kitchen harvest table from reclaimed Georgia heart pine. Hunt's Vintage Furniture built the custom shelving units off the main fireplace.

Resources: Finds from Scott Antique Markets are well represented in the home, as Lisa estimates that as much as 90 percent of the furnishings and accessories are from Scott, which has a monthly indoor antique show at the Atlanta Expo Center. In addition, furniture, accessories, artwork and greenery are from Atlanta stores Huff Harrington Home and Huff Harrington Art, Hill Street Warehouse, Lucy's Market and Peridot. The outdoor furniture and Christmas trees are from Home Depot.

Favorite outdoor feature: The rolling lawn leading to Paces Lake. "Everybody feels so relaxed when they get here. I think the water just does that, and the view of the lake," Lisa said. "Immediately you're away from the stress of the city."

Decor tip: Buy what you love for the home. Lisa's philosophy is that if an item moves you or speaks to you, you need to take it home. She added: "You can find a spot for it later. Eventually the pieces in your home will tell a story that reflects your own personal style."
