Atlanta homeowners will show off their neighborhoods’ diverse architecture and interiors that range from opulent to eclectic during this fall’s home tours.
Some events go beyond residences to include historic buildings, schools and even backyard chicken coops. The tours raise money to beautify the neighborhoods, support community projects and help local nonprofits.
Here’s a quick look at seven home tours scheduled for September and October.
Fall in the Fourth Tour of Homes
When: Noon-5 p.m., Sept. 11
What you'll see: Styles on the tour in Atlanta's Old Fourth Ward neighborhood range from classic traditional to contemporary homes and lofts. The fifth annual home tour is presented by Fourth Ward Neighbors. Money raised will benefit local organizations and go back into projects that will beautify the Boulevard corridor within the neighborhood.

2016 East Lake Tour of Homes
When: 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sept. 10, 1-5 p.m. Sept. 11
What you'll see: Six homes are featured. The range from Meadow Nook, which was built in 1856 and is the city's second-oldest house, to newer construction with farmhouse and Craftsman character. The neighborhood has a lot of class, said Chris Drobny, whose split-level ranch home built in the 1950s is on the tour. Plus, it's home to the city's oldest golf course, East Lake Golf Club, which serves as a pillar for the community, Drobny said.

Historic West End Tour of Homes 2016
When: 5-10 p.m., Sept. 24
What you'll see: The 11 homes, from Victorian to Craftsman to mid-century modern, aim to show the diversity of housing styles in historic West End, said Tony McLean, chair of events for West End Neighborhood Development. He said homeowners were eager to participate when approached about featuring their residence and outdoor living spaces during the self-guided walking/driving tour. "Everybody was so excited," he said. "It's almost like before I could get the sentence out to ask the question they were saying, 'Yes.'"

2016 Serenbe Designer Showhouse and Third Annual Serenbe Home Tour
When: Designer Showhouse, Sept. 9-Oct 2.; Third Annual Serenbe Home Tour, Oct. 9
What you'll see: A three-bedroom penthouse shows off new construction and the work of 15 designers during the Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles Serenbe Designer Showhouse. The penthouse is in the Textile Lofts, a new building designed by J. Ryan Duffey and built by Morgan Construction in Serenbe's Grange neighborhood. The home tour in October will spotlight homeowners' interest in design and the arts.

Candler Park Fall Fest Tour of Homes
When: Noon-6 p.m., Oct. 2
What you'll see: Historic and restored homes, contemporary residences, gardens and chicken coops are spotlighted. The tour-worthy coops include one with cement pavers, reused siding and clear roofing panels that Corey Anderson and Bryan Thrasher built from an online design for their five chickens. They spent less than $500 and devoted weekends for a couple months to build the coop. "It's definitely added to the aesthetics of our backyard," said Anderson, who moved into Candler Park in 1994.

Castleberry Hill Loft Tour
When: 11 a.m.-5 p.m., Oct. 22
What you'll see: The annual loft tour returned in 2015 after a hiatus and it's happening again in 2016, with eight lofts featured in this industrial Atlanta neighborhood near Mercedes-Benz Stadium. "All of the money and attention that's going to downtown is what really caused us to want to do it again," said Lucas Carter, a real estate agent with Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage and tour chairman. About 400 people attended last year and about 1,000 are expected this year, he said. Even though the buildings may be 100 years old, the spaces have been renovated and offer a canvas for individual design styles. "It is always somewhat industrially charming and chic," he said. "We are certainly eclectic. With each person, it's something different." Food trucks and an artist market also are a part of the event.

NARI Atlanta Tour of Remodeled Homes
When: 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Oct. 22
What you'll see: Makeovers abound on this self-guided driving tour that features at least seven homes in Atlanta, Marietta, Dunwoody, Brookhaven and other communities. The remodeling projects spotlight the latest in bathrooms, kitchens, offices, multi-purpose areas and exteriors. The contractors are expected to be on site to answer questions.
