Once Bill and Anne Storey’s kids grew up, they traded living in a swim and tennis neighborhood in east Cobb County for a new home with a pool near historic Roswell.

“We were in a neighborhood that was great for them growing up,” Anne Storey said. “When we heard about this, (we thought) this sounds like an ideal location for us and a way to live.”

When they moved from their home of 22 years to the Goulding community, they decided to add a few new-to-them features, including a custom bar in the basement, transitional-style furniture and a backyard pool. They walk to restaurants such as Table & Main, Noca and Osteria Mattone on Roswell's charming Canton Street, but still have space to host their kids during the holidays and make meals at home.

When they considered adding extras such as the pool, the empty nesters continued to think of their children.

“We thought, it’s great for when our children come home, and someday grandkids,” Anne Storey said.

In 2016, Bill Storey, an executive for Mohawk, and his wife, Anne, moved into their home in Roswell, near restaurants and shops on Canton Street. The home has 6,000 square feet, including the finished basement, four bedrooms and 4 1/2 baths.

Architectural style: Traditional

Favorite architectural elements: Barn doors that separate the "hearth room" from the fireplace, and a set of barn doors in front of the pantry, as well as accordion doors that open the kitchen and family room to the back porch. The result is one big indoor-outdoor space, Anne Storey said.

Renovations: They finished the basement, working with Matthew Barile of Barile Construction and Design.

One of Bill and Anne Storey's biggest projects was finishing the basement in their new home. With the help of Matthew Barile from Barile Construction and Design, and Justin Powers of Powers Building Solutions, the couple customized their basement with this bar.
