Duluth officials plan to hold a final food collection event Dec. 31 during the city's New Year's Eve Extravaganza.

The event will include a snow slide, country-music concert and a variety of rides and games. Admission will be one canned good for the local food bank or $1. The festivities get started at 7 p.m.

Duluth's food collection efforts support the local food bank, Hands of Christ (Duluth Co-op). The city's "Can-a-thon" projects for 2010-11 were organized as part of the Gwinnett Municipal Association. Since October, city employees have collected over 1,400 cans of food from a variety of events throughout Duluth.
