Gwinnett County modifies trash pickups due to coronavirus

The local emergency order will be in effect through April 7

Atlanta and the metro area regularly takes all the shine when it comes to things to do in the state. But drive about 40 minutes north and explore all that Suwanee has to offer.

Trash pickups have been modified in Gwinnett County according to an alert posted on the county's website.

Changes being made to solid waste service in unincorporated Gwinnett are part of the emergency order that was signed by Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners Chairman Charlotte Nash on March 25. It comes after the county declared a local emergency in response to the coronavirus crisis on March 16.

Now through April 7, trash that is bagged and put inside trash carts and recycled items put inside recycling bins or carts are the only items that will be picked up by sanitation workers.

Any excess trash or recycled materials that are placed outside the containers will not be picked up.

For the time being, bulky waste, white goods, and yard waste collections will be suspended.

Residents are strongly encouraged to put all trash and recycled materials inside bags and tie them up before putting them in carts to avoid loose debris in the containers or being left on the ground.

The order expires at 11:59 p.m. April 7.

Changes to trash service are among other changes that came to the county in recent days. After only restaurants in Suwanee were closed initially, the county announced that restaurants, bars and other dining spots must no longer host in-person dining. Only takeout and delivery services are permitted. Places like bowling allies and theaters were ordered to close.
