You say you love breakfast, but how much do you really know about it? Here are five things you probably didn't know about your favorite meal:

1. Cornflakes have been a breakfast staple for over a century. They were initially created for patients in a Michigan sanitarium. The food became so popular that Dr. Kellogg began selling them to the public in 1896.

2. Pancakes are one of the oldest breakfast foods. In fact, the earliest known pancakes were made about 12,000 years ago.

3. Bacon lover? A 200-pound pig will produce 20 pounds of bacon.

4. The average American eats 250 eggs a year—that's 76.5 billion eggs in the U.S.

5. Ever been told that breakfast is "the most important meal of the day?" Researchers say there's no real evidence to back that up and that it's probably an "old wive's tale."

But that doesn't mean we don't love breakfast foods.
