Starting your day with a run can help you avoid the heat and enjoy a quieter atmosphere. These are seven of the most scenic morning runs in Atlanta, according to AtlantaTrails.com.

Murphey Candler Park Trail

This two-mile trail takes you around a lake, where you might spot ducks or geese, and through plenty of shaded forest. You'll also pass small streams and marshland, and run over a picturesque wooden bridge along the way.

Cheatham Hill/Kolb Farm Loop Trail

This unpaved trail is close to six miles in length, traversing through an interesting terrain of meadow and forest. And since it's in the shadow of Kennesaw Mountain, you'll also be running through the Civil War battle sites.

Chastain Park Trails

Three miles of paved trails take runners past the North Fulton Golf Course, as well as Chastain Park. Runners cross a bridge over a small creek, and the trail winds past a stream. Trees are especially beautiful as they change colors in the fall, and you're also likely to see some ducks and geese that call the area home.

Suwanee Greenway Trail

The Suwanee Greenway Trail takes you through beautiful wetlands and marsh as you travel on a boardwalk and paved trail. The trail is about six miles long, but multiple trailheads give you the opportunity to vary the distance if you'd like to. Make sure to take time to look for wildlife in the wetlands and marsh along your way.

Eastside Beltline Trail

This four-mile route takes you from Piedmont Park to Inman Park and the Historic Fourth Ward Park, all on a level, paved trail. In addition to skyline views, you'll be able to see wall art and sculptures, and if you'd like to grab something to help you refuel, stop in at your choice of several restaurants or at the Ponce City Market.

Cochran Shoals Trail on the Chattahoochee River

This level trail is just over three miles long and follows along the Chattahoochee River before traveling through marshland and meadows. The views of the whitewater are beautiful any time of the day, but in the morning, you may be able to also spot some fog rolling over the river.

Piedmont Park Running Trail

Head out from the southwest corner of Piedmont Park, at the 10th street entrance, and you'll be at the start of an approximately four-mile run. Along the way, you'll pass the Atlanta Botanical Garden, Piedmont's pool and Lake Clara Meer, enjoying a view of Atlanta's morning skyline. For the maximum experience, take the run on a Saturday morning and stop at the Piedmont Park Green Market on the way back.
