“Convoy of Care” is collecting donations for victims of Hurricane Florence

Atlanta-based Cox Media Group is activating the “Convoy of Care,” to help those affected by Hurricane Florence.

The goal is to deliver much needed supplies to the flood-ravaged communities in the Carolinas though a partnership with the nonprofit, Caring for Others.

Participating properties include The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Channel 2 Action News,  News  95.5 , AM 750 WSB, B98.5, KISS 104.1 and 97.1 FM The River.

The effort to collect and send bottled water, diapers and household cleaning supplies runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday and Tuesday.

“This says everything about the spirit of Atlanta,” said Condace Pressley, director of Community Affairs for Cox Media Group Atlanta. “Atlanta has the reputation as the city to busy to hate and we want to show how wonderful our city is and how wonderful our audiences are.”

She said Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms even suggested a friendly competition between Greek letter organizations to “rise up and help our neighbors in need.”

Last year, 13 tractor trailer packed with water and supplies made it way to help people in Texas in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, which resulted in unprecedented rainfall and flooding and sent  tens of thousands of people to shelters.

The need is for cases of packaged bottled water, unopened boxes of diapers and household cleaning supplies.

Drop off locations:

WSB Studios, 1601 West Peachtree St. N.E., Atlanta.

Caring for Others warehouse on 3537 Browns Mill Rd., Atlanta .

Pressley said there is also a need for volunteers able to pick up packages of bottled water and help load the tractor trailers.

There will be an escort by law enforcement from Atlanta through the drop-off points in the Carolinas.
