Social media reacts to Tyler Perry’s reported $100m Atlanta mega mansion

The media mogul is just getting started

Tyler Perry paid the grocery bills for all shoppers during senior hour Wednesday morning at 44 Kroger supermarkets in metro Atlanta and 29 more in his hometown of New Orleans.

Media mogul Tyler Perry is building a new house in Atlanta, and it’s reportedly a $100 million mega mansion. Photos of the estate have begun surfacing online, and the internet is going wild. It’s a personal project of Perry’s that has been in the works for years. But, it’s not quite done yet.

The project dates back to 2013, when the Madea actor reportedly purchased 856 acres in Douglas County — a lot once destined to house more than 1,300 Georgia residents. Five years later, TMZ reported that Perry had been building a massive estate just outside of Atlanta.

TMZ revealed photos of the estate two years later — revealing a gargantuan luxury home, acres upon acres of personal property and seemingly a private airstrip.

The 35,000 square-foot mansion rests atop 1,200 acres in Douglasville, just outside of Atlanta and a short driving distance from Tyler Perry Studios. The estate also features a massive lap pool and a rather grand property entrance.

Just last week, Black Enterprise revealed new photos of the compound. While still unfinished, the estate’s grass, gardens and shrubbery could be seen filling in nicely around the property entrance. The front and back yard of the mansion itself seem to still mostly be an empty lot of dirt.

Now photos of the estate are spreading all over the internet, and people are voicing their excitement on social media.

“This is gorgeous,” “#blackexcellence,” “Crib got it’s own zip code,” read some of the top comments across Instagram posts on the property. This is not Perry’s first venture into Atlanta luxury real estate either.

The media mogul purchased a 17-acre mansion on West Paces Ferry Road in 2009 for a whopping $9 million, a proverbial drop in the bucket compared to the reported price of his new Douglasville estate. After spending millions renovating the Buckhead property, Perry sold it to evangelist David Turner for $17.5 million in 2016.

A year earlier, Perry started another major project — Tyler Perry studios.

Perry purchased 330 acres of the former Fort McPherson site in 2015 for $30 million, then invested more than $250 million in construction and renovations. Tyler Perry Studios is larger by acreage than any major L.A. studio, and it remains the only major film studio in the nation to be owned by an African American.

Best known for his dozen “Madea” movies, Perry has built a media empire, including BET’s “Sistas” and OWN’s “The Haves and the Have Nots.” Most recently, Perry gave a speech to Emory University graduates in early March — where the billionaire emphasized the value of hard work.
