Atlanta plays a number of roles in ‘Miracles’

Metro Atlanta is getting quite a workout from "Miracles From Heaven," a movie with Jennifer Garner and Queen Latifah about a young girl miraculously cured of a serious illness. The movie filmed downtown, in Dunwoody and Decatur before heading east for scenes in Covington this week. Garner took time out to visit Children's Healthcare of Atlanta the other day, visiting with young hero Henry Shepherd. The 9-year-old was diagnosed last fall with a cancer called osteosarcoma. A virtual fundraiser to help his family with the ongoing medical bills is online at giveforward.com/fundraiser/dvg7/-henryourhero.

Tech event draws a crowd

About 200 women gathered at Atlanta Technical College recently for an IT career summit sponsored by PINKtech.

Founder Felicia M. Phillips described the July 30 summit as a safe place for women to connect, explore and learn about technology. Bloggers, authors, inventors and technology experts were among those attending the networking event.

Building online communities, using marketing and design to build brands and addressing the gender gap in technology fields were among the topics discussed.
