MARIETTA

Art in the Park

An art extravaganza is headed to Marietta Square for the Labor Day weekend. During the free Art in the Park celebration, original works from more than 175 national and local artists will be on display, including jewelry, paintings, textile, metal work, glass, pottery, woodworking and photography. Kids also can show off their creative talents at the Chalk Spot, which lets elementary through high school students draw on city streets. Many of Marietta’s boutiques, shops and restaurants will be open. This annual event is always a draw, with crowds often topping 40,000.

10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sept. 5-7. Free. Marietta Square, 50 N. Park Square, Marietta. 404-966-8497, artparkmarietta.com.

ALPHARETTA

Laughter for Wellness

If most yoga poses and classes leave you crying in frustration, you might want to give laughter yoga a shot. Certified instructor Debbie Ellison is bringing the concept to a most unlikely laughing location — the Northeast/Spruill Oaks Library. On the first Saturday of each month, she will lead a one-hour session of this humorous workout, during which attendees not only stretch and breathe but seek physical and mental healing through the power of pealing laughter. What starts as a few hearty ha-ha’s and “childlike playfulness” is apt to build into real and quite contagious mirth. Be prepared to give those laugh lines a workout. Reservations are recommended.

2-3 p.m. Sept. 5. Free. Northeast/Spruill Oaks Library, 9560 Spruill Road, Alpharetta. 770-360-8820, afpls.org.

LOGANVILLE

Jazz on the Green

The Beta Lambda Lambda chapter of Omega Psi Phi fraternity holds its annual Jazz on the Green festival this weekend. The music will take place across three different stages and features performances by Trav Wright, Rachel Rachal and Durrell Lyons, among others. Spoken-word artists also will be a part of the event and, if it gets too hot outside, there will be an area for indoor entertainment. All proceeds benefit the See It Through Foundation of Gwinnett County’s scholarship fund. Outside food and drinks are not permitted.

6-11 p.m. Sept. 5, rain or shine. $40-$70. The Vines Mansion, 3500 Oak Grove Road S.W., Loganville. 770-554-2284, jazzonthegreen.eventbrite.com.
