What began with a lavish Atlanta wedding may be ending in a messy divorce and court battles, but singer Kelis has happier things to think about -- the birth of her first baby.
The singer went into labor Tuesday; it's unknown when she delivered her baby boy by rapper Nas, her estranged husband. The same day, the singer was scheduled to battle her former beau about finances in a courtroom, according to TMZ.com.
Kelis, 29, filed for divorce from 35-year-old Nas in April after four years of marriage. MTV.com reports that she's accused her husband of abandonment during pregnancy and failure to provide financial support.
The "Milkshake" singer "took a hiatus" from her career to attend culinary school in 2008, and has since spent her royalty funds on monthly bills, according to MTV. She's seeking child support prenatal expenses and spousal support from Nas, who has a teen daughter from a previous relationship.
The hip-hop stars may be New Yorkers, but they have a softer Southern side. After all, Kelis and Nas got hitched at the Morningside Baptist Church in 2005. (Remember the green wedding gown?)
Maybe that "poison ivy" theme was a bad sign.
