Jimmy Buffett knocked unconscious in concert fall
Jimmy Buffett fell off the stage and was knocked unconscious during his concert finale in Sydney, Australia, on Wednesday, TMZ.com is reporting.
The 64-year-old singer is reportedly in stable condition at a local hospital.
Witness Sean Fogarty told TMZ that when the lighting person splashed "a huge flash of light," Buffett could not see and fell off the front of the stage, crashing into a metal edge on his way to the floor. Buffett reportedly had a huge gash on his head and was unconcscious for 5 to 10 minutes.
The flashing light lasted 10 seconds, so the audience couldn't tell immediately that Buffett had fallen, according to TMZ.
The "Margaritaville" and "Cheeseburger in Paradise" singer had performed three sold-out shows at Sydney's Opera House before the fateful Australia Day performance at sold-out Hordern Pavilion.
Fans were told to leave following Buffett's fall, and were left wondering about his condition, The Daily Telegraph of London reported.
"We were in the 10th row and it looked like he did a massive face plant after his encore and pretty much didn't get up," Dan Bateman, 30, told the newspaper.
"We were told to leave the premises. No one really wanted to leave because everyone was anxious to know if he survived the fall. Everyone was pretty horrified."
