Guitarist Greg Lake of the band Emerson, Lake and Palmer has died.
His death was announced on his website by friend Stewart Young.
Young posted that Lake lost a long battle with cancer on Wednesday and has asked for privacy for his family.
Lake was a founding member of King Crimson before he met Keith Emerson and eventually drummer Carl Palmer to form Emerson, Lake and Palmer.
According to Lake's official biography, one of their first performances together was during the Isle of Wight Festival. Their debut self-titled album was issued in 1971 and eventually went platinum. It featured a song written by Lake called "Lucky Man."
Lake is also known for a Christmas song "I Believe in Father Christmas."
Emerson Lake and Palmer has sold more than 48 million records over their four decade career.
Gregg also teamed up over the years with other big names of the music world, touring with Ringo Starr and his All-Star Band, and performing with Roger Daltrey and Trans-Siberian Orchestra.
Earlier this year, another member of Emerson, Lake and Palmer died. Keith Emerson passed away in March.
Carl Palmer is still touring. He is currently performing with the band Asia.
