A new actress will join the ranks of the women who have given a Disney princess her voice.
Auli'i Cravalho will now down in the history books as the voice of Moana.
She made the announcement on her Twitter page.
Here are five things to know about the actress and the new movie:
1. Auli'i Cravalho is 14-years-old and is Native Hawaiian. The high school freshman sings soprano in her glee club, NBC News reported.
2. Moana is the first Pacific Islander Disney princess, and Asian-American media watchers are excited that a Native Hawaiian has been cast in a movie about Hawaii. "From baby time to now, I wanted to be a Disney princess and then I wanted to be a singer or an actress," Cravalho told People magazine.
3. Cravalho was spotted by an Oahu casting agent at a charity competition, and was brought to Los Angeles to audition. She was the last girl seen on the last day of casting, NBC News reported. The movie's creative team held an online callback with Cravalho, or at least that's what she thought it was. They told her to ad lib, acting happy as if she had just won the part. In reality, she had been chosen already, The Wall Street Journal reported.
4. The movie will be set 2,000 years ago. Moana will have to fulfill her ancestors' quest. It is scheduled to hit theaters at Thanksgiving 2016.
5. Cravalho joins Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. The wrestler-turned-actor portrays the demigod Maui who accompanies Moana through her quest. Johnson will also be singing.
