George Clooney’s “The Descendants” has been tagged Best Film of 2011 by The Southeastern Film Critics Association. The movie also gleaned best actor honors for Clooney and runner-up acknowledgements in best ensemble and best supporting actress (for Shailene Woodley) categories.

SEFCA crowned Meryl Streep best actress for her role as former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in “The Iron Lady.” Supporting accolades went to Christopher Plummer (“Beginners”) and Janet McTeer (“Albert Nobbs”), while Martin Scorsese claimed best director (“Hugo”) and Woody Allen best original screenplay (“Midnight in Paris”).

These are the 20th annual awards for the association, with ballots coming from 47 film journalists in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.
