Fox Theatre, 'Ben-Hur' a perfect match

Iconic epic well-suited to giant screen

One of the best times to go to the Coca-Cola Summer Film Festival at the Fox Theatre is when the schedule calls for a true film classic that benefits from being shown on a big, big screen.

Charlton Heston's "Ben-Hur" (1959), the winner of a record-tying 11 Oscars, is the feature set for 7 p.m. Sunday. Moviegoers should brace themselves for the iconic chariot race, one of the greatest action sequences in film history.

The event will be preceeded by a 2 p.m. showing of Disney's "Enchanted."

Both films are perfect companions for the Fox's Mighty Mo organ performance by Larry Douglas Embury and sing-along.

Some of the films set for August include "Sex and the City" (7:30 p.m. Aug. 7), "Iron Man" (7:30 p.m. Aug. 8), "Kung Fu Panda" (2 p.m. Aug. 10) and "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" (7:30 p.m. Aug. 30).
