3 fun things
LILBURN
Lilburn International Festival
Instead of “small town,” organizers of the Lilburn International Festival are thinking “small town, big world.” This inaugural festival brings together schools, nonprofits, consulates and businesses to showcase different cultures from around the world. The day will begin with a parade of international flags and segue into four hours of exhibitions about different cultural organizations, sports traditions and international cuisine. The band Lattitude will provide the soundtrack for the day as they play Latin rock and jazz in both English and Spanish.
10 a.m.-2 p.m. Sept. 13. Free. Lilburn City Park, 76 Main St., Lilburn. 770-921-2210, lilburnevents.com.
ROSWELL
Beyond My Stone
Roswell has a colorful, storied past, and who better to relate some of the most intriguing stories than those who lived it? Members of the Roswell Historical Society, dressed as prominent figures from the city’s history, will tell stories from the area at this event. Telling the tales in the Presbyterian cemetery will be members portraying antebellum settlers, a woman arrested by the Union Army in 1864, a minor league baseball player with the Atlanta Crackers, and a victim of yellow fever.
5:30 p.m. Sept. 13. $10 for adults, $5 for children (maximum of $30 per family). Roswell Presbyterian Church, 755 Mimosa Blvd., Roswell. 770-992-1665, roswellhistoricalsociety.org.
SANDY SPRINGS
Atlanta Meatball Festival
There’s more than meats the eye, as it were, as Sandy Springs proves it’s on the ball with this foodie festival. Sixteen restaurants from the metro area will feature their best meatballs during the Battle of the Balls competition pitting beef, pork, lamb and chicken options against one another. The three top choices will advance to the MeatBrawl Throwdown at the Taste of Atlanta in October. In addition to the meat madness, there will be wine, beer and limoncello tastings, as well as a silent auction to benefit Open Hand, a nonprofit that delivers meals and promotes nutrition. Admission includes meatball tastings and four beer and wine sampling tickets.
2-6 p.m. Sept. 14. $40 in advance, $45 at the event; children younger than 10 are free. Cibo E Beve restaurant in Belle Isle Square, 4969 Roswell Road, Sandy Springs. 404-259-5002, atlantameatballfestival.com.
