Vero Pizzeria in Brookhaven
Word of Mouth Restaurants opened Vero Pizzeria in Brookhaven this week. The casual dining concept is located between sister restaurants Haven and Valenza on Dresden Drive, serving a menu of pizzas, small bites, salads and Italian beverages focused on "the tastes of Napoli and the Campania region of Italy." Chef Matt Swickerath oversees the kitchen, firing custom pies topped with seasonal, locally sourced ingredients in an Italian-made Acunto pizza oven. 1441 Dresden Drive N.E., Suite 120, Brookhaven. vero-pizzeria.com.
Flip Poncey-Highland closed
The Flip Burger Boutique location in Poncey-Highland is closed, and reports are that a new concept from a new owner will be taking its place. Parking and proximity to the Buckhead and Howell Mill locations were cited as reasons. But the location has been subject to several changes over the years. It started out in 2011 as "Top Chef "Richard Blais' fancy hot dog restaurant, HD1, and was converted to become the fourth Flip Burger Boutique in 2013. Blais is the founding chef of the Flip concept and continues as "creative director." flipburgerboutique.com.
Sobban Decatur closing
Sobban, the Korean Southern diner from chef/owners Cody Taylor and Jiyeon Lee of Heirloom Market BBQ, announced that it will close this month after over two years of business in Decatur. The restaurant opened in 2013 in the former Kitsch'n 155 space and received rave reviews, including a Bon Appétit Best New Restaurants 2014 nomination. It's been reported that a second Heirloom Market location in Lee's native South Korea is in the works. 1788 Clairmont Road, Decatur. 678-705-4233, facebook.com/humblemeal.
Tom Catherall’s Tom Tom
Tom Catherall, the chef-founder of Atlanta's Here to Serve restaurant group, transferred ownership of the company to his ex-wife, Leigh Catherall, as part of the couple's divorce settlement. In October, Leigh Catherall closed all 10 restaurants and filed for bankruptcy protection. But last week, Tom Catherall told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that he plans to open Here to Serve's shuttered Noche space in Virginia-Highland as Tom Tom Tapas & Tequilas. And he hopes to take over the Noche locations in Vinings and Brookhaven for two more Tom Tom concepts.
