Chow Bing open in Buckhead
Owner Gary Lin has opened a second location of Chow Bing, his "responsible Chinese food" concept. The fast-casual Asian restaurant features natural, sustainable and primarily gluten-free options. The first Chow Bing opened a year ago on Decatur Street in the Pencil Factory Flats and Shops. The new Chow Bing is in the "Disco Kroger" shopping center on Piedmont Road. The Bishop set to open May 13
A much-anticipated Avondale Estates neighborhood restaurant and bar, the Bishop, announced its official debut for 4 p.m. May 13. Owner-operator Luellen Marshall, who boasts more than 20 years of hospitality experience, promises a "charming atmosphere and neighborhood-centric philosophy." The menu will feature American classics and traditional comfort foods with a mix of small plates, salads, sandwiches and entrees, including North Carolina clams with andouille sausage and Sweetwater beer reduction. Tokiwa Sears at Southern Art
Southern Art and Bourbon Bar has hired Tokiwa "Toki" Sears as head mixologist and lead bartender for both the restaurant and bar at the Buckhead concept from chef and restaurateur Art Smith. Sears, who is known for her fresh, creative cocktails, most recently served alongside Iron Chef and James Beard Award nominee chef Duane Nutter at One Flew South, the acclaimed Atlanta airport restaurant and bar. She won the 2013 Taste of Atlanta Barcraft competition and the "best of" for whiskey at Slow Food Atlanta's Peach Jam 2013. southernart.com.
Smoke & Glory at Steinbeck’s
At high noon on May 18, Steinbeck's Ale House in Oakhurst will host chefs from Pine Street Market, Farm Burger, Staplehouse, Brickstore, Leon's, Kimball House, Stem Wine Bar, Seed Kitchen & Bar, Twain's, the Hil and Southbound to compete in a no-holds-barred smoked pork cook-off. Judges from Community Q, D.B.A. and Slopes will pick the Smoke & Glory winners, with Jim Stacy of Pallookaville as the emcee.
