Ticonderoga Club opens
After two years of secrecy and high anticipation, Greg Best, David Bies, Paul Calvert, Bart Sasso and Regan Smith finally opened Ticonderoga Club for dinner on Oct. 29. Much of the buzz has been about Best and Calvert, two of Atlanta's most visionary bartenders. But Ticonderoga is first and foremost a restaurant, with food and drink that are classic but executed with contemporary flair. Look for the likes of an Ipswich clam roll and slow-roasted duck. The julep-inspired Ticonderoga Cup is the punchlike "cup of the house." 99 Krog St. N.E., Atlanta. 404-458-4534, ticonderogaclub.com.
Il Giallo in Sandy Springs
On the heels of several last-minute delays, Il Giallo Osteria & Bar, a new coastal Italian concept, is open on Roswell Road in Sandy Springs. The much-anticipated first restaurant from Jamie Adams and Leonardo Moura has its roots in Veni Vidi Vici, the Midtown Italian fixture where Adams was the longtime executive chef and Moura was the general manager. On the menu, fresh pasta made to order, plus whole roasted fish, and chicken, veal, pork and beef dishes. 5920 Roswell Road N.E., Suite B118, Sandy Springs. 404-709-2148, ilgialloatl.com.
Cafe 640 closed Nov. 1
As announced on its Facebook page, Cafe 640 in Poncey-Highland closed on Nov. 1: "We want to thank all our loyal fans, it's been a great pleasure to serve you all." Once known as Cafe Del Sol, and popular for its lively front patio and Wine Wednesday promotions, the coffeehouse-style bar and restaurant also served as the go-to brunch, dinner and late-night spot for guests at the equally bohemian Highland Inn, next door. No word, yet, on what may take its place. cafe640.com.
