What’s new on metro Atlanta dining scene
Yum Bunz finally open
Yum Bunz, the new quick-serve Chinese concept from Mike Blum, founder of the Real Chow Baby, and Guy Wong, chef/owner of Miso Izakaya, is finally open on Atlanta's Westside after a long series of delays. The "Dim Sum Fast" menu features steamed bao (buns) filled with combos of meat and/or veggies, plus steamed or grilled dumplings, soups, salads, bowls and wraps. Beverages include beer, wine and a signature mango and kaffir lime frozen margarita. 935 Marietta St., Atlanta. 678-399-3992, yumbunz.com.
Chick-a-Biddy set to open
Less than a year after they opened Bantam + Biddy in Ansley Mall, chefs Shaun Doty and Lance Gummere are set to open Chick-a-Biddy in Atlantic Station. The duo’s second restaurant featuring regional, all-natural poultry will take over the space once occupied by the Grape. Executive chef Scott Weaver has created a lunch and dinner menu with a variety of entrees, starters, salads and sandwiches, including a “meat-and-two” option with two sides that lets guests choose their portion size and preparation style. 264 19th St., 404-588-1888.
Victory closed in Inman Park
Victory Sandwich Bar in Inman Park closed after service on July Fourth after what was billed as "the most extraordinary inconceivable phenomenal unprecedented incredibly preposterous going-out-of-business fireworks extravaganza!" The location was forced out to make way for construction on the new 280 Elizabeth mixed-use development. It will relocate to the nearby Park's Edge in the fall. Meanwhile, the Decatur Victory Sandwich Bar is open at 340 Church St. vicsandwich.com.
Rathbun’s closed by kitchen fire
Cliff Bramble, co-owner of Rathbun's (and Krog Bar, Kevin Rathbun Steak and KR SteakBar), reported that the Inman Park restaurant "experienced a small fire in the kitchen" over the July Fourth holiday, "which the fire marshal believes started in the hood system." The result was fire, water and smoke damage in the restaurant. "We have an amazing restoration company restoring and repairing the damage to the restaurant and hope to be open" by week's end, Bramble said. "Thankfully, nobody was hurt and nobody was in the building at the time." 112 Krog St. N.E. 404-524-8280, rathbunsrestaurant.com.
Heirloom Market BBQ changes
Heirloom Market BBQ no longer has in-house dining and has become a to-go and catering-only business due to a ruling by Cobb County and the Department of Transportation that there can no longer be parking on the unpaved surface areas around the restaurant. But reports are out that owners Cody Taylor and Jiyeon Lee have a new Korean-influenced restaurant in the works. 2243 Akers Mill Road. 770-612-2502, heirloommarketbbq.com.
