Buckhead Atlanta restaurant updates

Buckhead Atlanta, the high-end retail and restaurant project, has several restaurant openings in the next few weeks. Shake Shack, the popular Manhattan export known for the ShackBurger, Flat-Top Dogs and frozen custard concretes, opened on Tuesday. Thirteen Pies, billed as an intimate neighborhood restaurant dedicated to serving wood-fired artisan pizzas and hand-cut pasta, is set to open Oct. 7. Gypsy Kitchen, offering a Spanish atmosphere and menu of shareable snacks, small plates and larger entrees for communal-style meals, will open Oct. 14. buckhead-atl.com.

World of Beer Midtown opening

World of Beer, billed as "the place for craft beer, fun, live music, entertainment, and good times with friends," is set to open on Peachtree Street in Midtown on Oct. 13, joining a beer bar scene that includes Cypress Street Pint & Plate, Gordon Biersch, and Taco Mac. The fast-growing Tampa-based franchise operation has more than 60 locations in 19 states. On the menu, some 500 bottled beers and 53 rotating taps, plus "tavern fare" such as flatbreads and sandwiches. Avalon culinary sneak peeks

Avalon, the upscale mixed-use development on Old Milton Parkway in Alpharetta, will host some sneak peeks before its Oct. 30 grand opening. Whole Foods Market will open Oct. 14, but will offer shoppers 45-minute preview tours Oct. 10 and 11, with online registration required: avalon.wholefoodsrsvp.com/?sf31483231=1. On Oct. 29, the Perfect Taste will feature a culinary stroll with menu items from many of the new restaurants opening at Avalon, including Antico Pizza, Bantam + Biddy, Bocado Burger Bar, Crú Wine Bar, the El Felix, and Oak Steakhouse. Hector Santiago leaving Abattoir

Former "Top Chef" contestant Hector Santiago has resigned as executive chef at Abattoir, the meaty restaurant from Bacchanalia chefs/owners Anne Quatrano and Clifford Harrison. Joe Schafer, who recently left King + Duke in Buckhead, is taking over the Abattoir kitchen later in October. Santiago, formerly chef/owner of a trio of Poncey-Highland Latin concepts, Pura Vida, Super Pan Latino, and El Burro Pollo, has signed a letter of intent to open a restaurant at Ponce City Market.
