Pallookaville reopened in Avondale
After being closed for renovations in February, then sold, Pallookaville in Avondale Estates reopened for business on April 26. First opened on Halloween in 2013, the soda fountain and deli was the creation of Atlanta deep-fried corn dog master and TV personality Jim Stacy, who envisioned it as a brick-and-mortar spinoff of his popular carnival food truck. The menu still features pork burgers, deli sandwiches and a full bar with adult "shaketails." Stacy now serves as a consultant to new owners James Maggard and Jason Hylton, who also own Matador Cantina in Oakhurst. 17 N. Avondale Plaza, Decatur. 404-500-1785, pallookaville.com.
Manuel’s Tavern reopening news
Fans and regulars of the historic Manuel's Tavern in Poncey-Highland will be happy with the news that its reopening could come as early as July. According to a recent post on its Facebook page, "July 22 is the scheduled construction completion date." Manuel's closed for renovations in late 2015 as part of a plan for building a new mixed-use development on the property that will include parking, retail space and rental units. It first opened in 1956, when the late Manuel Maloof bought Harry's Delicatessen and turned it into his vision of an Old World tavern. 602 N. Highland Ave. N.E., Atlanta. 404-525-3447, manuelstavern.com.
