In May, 30 Tables opened inside the luxurious and historic Glenn Hotel, boldly going where two other much ballyhooed but short-lived restaurants, BED and Maxim Prime, had gone before.
Atlanta’s Concentrics Restaurants partnered with Gemstone Hotels & Resorts to take over the boutique corner space on Marietta Street, installing longtime Concentrics chef Daniel Chance, formerly of Two Urban Licks, in the kitchen.
In addition to dinner seven nights a week, Chance serves the hotel with breakfast, lunch, and an all-day menu. There’s also a posh rooftop deck, dubbed 11 Stories, that features an herb garden, along with big cocktails and small plates.
Downtown tables
During a recent Downtown Atlanta Restaurant Week visit, most of the eponymous 30 tables were filled with locals enjoying a special three-course prix fixe menu. They rubbed elbows with tourists and business travelers, creating a lively din in the understated but elegant contemporary atmosphere.
Simple, Southern, local
Chance’s cooking at 30 Tables is mostly simple fare, prepared with Southern touches and seasonal ingredients. His restaurant week offerings included several items from the current dinner menu. Among the best, whole rainbow trout, touted on the menu as being delivered fresh daily from Enchanted Springs in North Georgia. It’s deboned, dusted with cornmeal, pan-fried to a delicate turn, and served with charred tomato vinaigrette and crisp French green beans.
A hefty braised boneless short rib comes with pickled vegetables atop a mound of herbed mashed potatoes. Veggie wild mushroom meatloaf is made with pattypan squash. Other items range from a burger ($12) with white cheddar, fried onions, and chipotle mayo to scallops and shrimp in a green curry broth ($22) and a grilled New York strip steak ($32). For dessert, look for Key lime pistachio tart and vanilla cheese cake. And the likes of steak and eggs, a turkey club, and an assortment of bar snacks are available all day.
