Tabatha Coffey, the straight-talking star of “Tabatha’s Salon Takeover” and author of “It’s Not Really About the Hair,” came to Atlanta this week to get a lot done. Along with book-signing appearances at the W Atlanta Midtown on Thursday and one at Outwrite Bookstore and Coffeehouse on Friday, the shear genius personally revealed the scalps of metro Atlantans willing to lose their locks for charity. She was the celebrity hair-razer at the St. Baldrick’s Foundation fundraiser at Ri Ra Irish Pub in Midtown on Thursday. (Another starts at 12:30 p.m. today at Meehan’s Public House in Sandy Springs, although Coffey isn’t involved in that one). With all she had going on we felt fortunate to get a minute on the phone to ask Coffey the most pressing question we could think of: what does she think of Justin Bieber’s new ’do? “I wasn’t loving” the trademark Bieb swoosh, now cast aside for a spiky tousled new look. “I hate that hair-in-your-eyes look.” She also praised Jennifer Aniston’s recent criticism of the famous style she sported on “Friends.” As a hairdresser, Coffey grew weary of the throngs who demanded “The Rachel.” As for what’s going to be in this year? Shorter and lighter, Coffey predicts. “I want to challenge the idea that short can’t be sexy,” she said. We asked if she saw any correlation between hairstyles and the economy, similar to the supposed correlation between the stock market and hem lines. Perhaps, Coffey said — someone who sports highlights or shorter hair must be willing to spend to keep that look going. And what of her own coiffure? “I have really crappy hair. It’s so thin, baby fine,” Coffey lamented, explaining why she keeps it short. “And it grows really slow.” An emergency haircut when her regular hairdresser was away once left her practically bald. “I was miserable for months,” she mused. “But then again, it’s just hair!”

Reality television personality and author Bethenny Frankel and her husband Jason Hoppy had dinner at South City Kitchen Midtown Thursday night, thanks to the power of Twitter. She was in town for a Friday night appearance at the Cobb Energy Performance Arts Centre, and tweeted ahead of time asking for restaurant recommendations in Atlanta. After numerous folks responded suggesting South City Kitchen — a favorite of visiting celebrities including former first lady Laura Bush, Conan O’Brien, Jennifer Hudson, Charles Barkley, Debbie Allen, Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck — South City’s industrious twitter team (@FifthGrouper) swooped into action and ended up welcoming her for dinner.
