Simmons said "It was a place to make friends, listen to and learn from others, lose weight and gain confidence. These were all the reasons I went to Slimmons too."

Simmons opened the studio in 1974.

His manager told Entertainment Tonight, "Slimmons was truly a reflection of all things Richard - one-of-a-kind, authentic, inspiring."

"While the studio is closing, Richard is so happy about the great friendships and lasting memories that were created there over the years," Michael Catalano said.

Catalano said Simmons decided to close the gym. The 68-year-old lifestyle coach had not taught a class at the business for two years, Entertainment Tonight reported.

Earlier this year, Simmons was hospitalized for what some were calling bizarre behavior.
