Let her sip tea on Mother's Day

Childhood memories tend to surface near Mother's Day.

Mittie's Tea Room co-owner Jessica Hoynowski has flashbacks of afternoon tea parties with her mom.

"She'd dress me up like a China doll and we would go to different places for high tea," said Hoynowski, 29.

That tradition has come full circle. Hoynowski often hosts children's tea parties at the her quaint Alpharetta cafe, which she owns with parents Cindy and Tom Hoynowski.

"Kids come dressed in gloves and hats and their Sunday best and get hooked on tea. It's absolutely adorable," Jessica Hoynowski says.

The tea room attracts grown-ups too. Hoynowski says Mother's Day has become their busiest day of the year, when adult children bring Mom in for tea time.

Mittie's Alpharetta location will serve "high tea" at 4 p.m. Friday through Sunday. The menu includes half chicken salad croissant, cherry blue chicken salad made in a phyllo pastry with blue cheese dressing, fruit salad, homemade scones and several desserts for $20.

The cafe also is open during its normal hours, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., this weekend. The tearoom is located at North Main Street in Alpharetta. For more information call 770-772-0850 or visit www.mitties.com. (Another Mittie's location in Roswell is under separate ownership. However the tearooms share the same Web site. A Norcross location that recently closed is still listed on the site.)
