Georgia Youth Symphony Orchestra and Chorus Concerts at Kennesaw State University

A trio of concerts by the Georgia Youth Symphony and Chorus make some noise at KSU. The group boasts the largest youth orchestra program in the Southeast. It launched in 2006, and it’s made up of two full orchestras, two string orchestras, a wind ensemble, a jazz ensemble, a percussion ensemble, a saxophone ensemble and two youth choruses. The chorus, jazz, philharmonia and philharmonia winds ensembles perform at 3 p.m. The camerata, camerata winds and sinfonia follow at 5:30 p.m. The percussion ensemble and symphony wrap up with the final performance beginning at 7:30 p.m.

ROSWELL

The Drake Walk and Festival at Roswell United Methodist Church

This walking event raises money for the Drake House, a nonprofit that provides short-term crisis housing for homeless mothers and their kids. Choose from either a one-mile, 5K or 10K walk. Registration is $15 per individual or $30 per family. The walk winds through historic Roswell and ends at a family-friendly festival. Enjoy free food and drink, soak up live music and let the young ones indulge in kiddie activities.

Spivey Hall Young Artists, Children’s Choir and Tour Choir at Spivey Hall

These young vocalists showcase their talents throughout the weekend. On May 13 the Spivey Hall Children’s Choir joins the Spivey Hall Young Artists in a spring concert with selections including "Bist du bei mir" by Bach and McRae’s fiddle tune "Shady Grove." The Children’s Choir and Tour Choir team up May 14 and 15 for a program entitled "Music of the Earth, Sea and Sky." Expect numbers from composers the likes of Paulus, Bruner, Daley and others. The Children’s Choir is made up of singers ages 10 to 18. The smaller Young Artists group features students ages 10 to 13. And the Tour Choir is a select ensemble that serves as the traveling performance group for the choir program.
