For decades, self-help literature and an obsession with wealth and wellness have captivated our collective imaginations.
We want to be inspired, to drop 10 pounds, to turn over a new leaf, to recapture our youth, and each year we make resolutions to do just that only to falter.
Well, help is on the way. In just a few days seemingly every self-help guru you ever wanted to meet will soon be under one “yes you can” roof.
The “I Can Do It” conference, sponsored by Hay House publishing company and billed as a weekend for your soul, returns to Atlanta on Saturday and Sunday at the Georgia World Congress Center.
But you had better hurry. Saturday is sold out and only preferred seating is available on Sunday at press time. The event also can be viewed live online at www.HayHouse.com for a fee. More than 1,800 people from all over the world are expected to be in attendance each day, said Nancy Levin, event director.
“This is a chance to bring together like-minded people, inspire them and give them the opportunity to see their favorite authors live,” Levin said. "Plus it's a great way for us to be in touch with our readers so that we know what they like and what they want more of."
The conference will feature keynotes from Hay House founder Louise Hay, author of "You Can Heal Your Life,"and Dr. Wayne W. Dyer, author of some 30 books, including bestsellers "The Power of Intention" and "Change Your Thoughts -- Change Your Life." Other speakers include Marianne Williamson, author of "A Return to Love"; Dr. Brian Weiss, author of "Many Lives, Many Masters"; and new speaker Anita Moorjani, author of " Dying to Be Me." Workshops will run the gamut with authors offering lessons on every thing from relationships, to sexuality to personal transformation, finance and youth empowerment. Attendees will also be treated to book signings and be able to shop at an on-site book store.
Hay House, a leader in self-help and motivational publishing with more than 250 authors, isn’t the first to capitalize on our yearnings for self-improvement and probably won’t be the last said, John La Rosa, research director of for Marketdata Enterprises, a Tampa, Fla., market research and consulting firm that covers the self-improvement market. However, because of the bad economy, LaRosa said attendance at live events and small training seminars -- a $400-500 million market -- has taken a major hit due to increased travel costs, with Webinars filling the void.
Reid Tracy, president and CEO of Hay House, said the conference is the perfect opportunity for people to realign and concentrate only on themselves and their personal journey.
Attendees will have the opportunity "to step outside of the normal day-to-day life and leave feeling re-energized, refreshed, and refocused on achieving goals," she said. "We hand-picked the presenting authors to bring a wealth of knowledge, inspiration and enlightenment to attendees."
