Anthony Hopkins had a friend for dinner in Buckhead the other night. The actor famed for his role as the omnivorous Dr. Hannibal Lecter is in Atlanta filming the movie “Solace,” also starring Colin Farrell. The thriller, about a psychic doctor who teams up with the authorities to help hunt down serial killers, has filmed in a number of Atlanta locations, including a bus station downtown. On Saturday, Hopkins and fellow cast member Jeffrey Dean Morgan dined at the Lobster Bar at Chops. We’re told he enjoyed the pepper-crusted swordfish. No fava beans. No nice Chianti.

‘Hunger Games’ series to return

The "Hunger Games" sequel "Catching Fire" filmed largely in Atlanta, and you can see our city in the recently released trailer if you look closely. (We have it posted for you at http://www.accessatlanta.com/weblogs/buzz/2013/jun/11/spot-atlanta-sites-catching-fire-trailer/.) The Atlanta History Center's Swan House served as the site for a big party scene, and the rustic buildings at the Goat Farm Arts Center were perfect for scenes in one of the rural districts. A Kirkwood area railyard, the downtown Marriott Marquis and the Georgia World Congress Center were among other Atlanta filming locations for "Catching Fire," which is due for a release this fall. Meanwhile, "Mockingjay," the next in the series, will be filming here as well. Last year, members of the cast were spotted in numerous Atlanta locations, so we'll be on high alert for Katniss sightings again this time.

A night out with Jon and John

Jon Hamm, in Atlanta filming the movie “Million Dollar Arm,” and John Stamos, here for a recurring guest role on the USA show “Necessary Roughness,” enjoyed a night out over the weekend. Jon and John and a group of friends were spotted at the Midtown W hotel’s “Living Room” bar area. “Million Dollar Arm,” about a sports agent who recruits Asian cricket players to Major League Baseball, is but the latest baseball-themed movie to film in Atlanta. (The Jackie Robinson biopic “42” and Clint Eastwood’s “Trouble With the Curve” are among others that have filmed here.) On “Necessary Roughness,” Stamos plays Connor McClane, “the powerful, ambitious and seriously handsome founder of V3, a global sports and entertainment management company,” according to character information on USA. New episodes featuring his character launched this week.

Healthcare at College Park, a nursing home in Fulton County, GA, stands shuttered with its door chained on July 26, 2025, having closed in recent months. Researchers at Brown University developed a list of U.S. nursing homes they predicted were at risk of closing based on 2023 data, and would be at elevated risk of closing due to the One Big, Beautiful Bill Act's cuts to Medicaid. Healthcare at College Park was on their list. It survived past its last federal inspection in August of 2024 but has now closed down. The bill's biggest provisions will roll out over years starting Jan. 1. (Ariel Hart/AJC)
