Break out the baby name book because Groupon is giving shoppers the opportunity to christen the new giraffe calf at Zoo Atlanta.
And that’s no tall tale.
In a first-ever scenario, the zoo and the daily deal website are teaming to offer guests reduced admission to the animal haven and the chance to name the female baby, born July 22 to mom Mona and dad Abu.
Keisha Hines, director of public relations and communications at Zoo Atlanta, said the zoo was looking for an innovative way to provide an experience for visitors while also saving them money.
Through Aug. 10, Groupon users who purchase a $10 general admission ticket to Zoo Atlanta at www.groupon.com will be entered into the naming lottery. Adult tickets are usually $20.99.
The grand prize winner, chosen randomly, will name the baby – subject to final approval by Zoo Atlanta, so don’t get ridiculous – and receive a behind-the-scenes VIP animal encounter at the zoo. An additional four winners will also receive the VIP prize.
