North Georgia State Fair turns up the volume
You can visit "Bear Mountain" or listen to a beast of a fiddler this week as the North Georgia State Fair in Marietta continues.
In addition to the rides, games and abundance of animal attractions set up at Jim R. Miller Park, visitors can also tune in to a series of musical acts performing each night at 8.
All concerts are free with admission.
Here’s a look at who you can catch in concert:
Wednesday
Jake Owen: Best known for his top five country hit, “Don’t Think I Can’t Love You,” Owen has opened for Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley, while also contributing to Sugarland’s cover of “Life in a Northern Town.”
Last year, his second album, “Easy Does It,” debuted at No. 2 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart.
Thursday
The Charlie Daniels Band: At 73, Daniels is the elder statesman of this year’s performers. But the fiery fiddler -- and sometimes GEICO hawker -- isn’t letting age slow his accomplishments.
In August, he released a compilation of patriotic songs, “Land That I Love,” which includes an updated version of his classic, “(What This World Needs Now Is) A Few More Rednecks.”
Nashville’s country/bluegrass trio Edens Edge opens at 7 p.m.
Friday
Hawk Nelson: The Christian rockers from Ontario will kick up the volume this weekend. The band has won several Gospel Music Association of Canada awards, including last year’s Modern Rock/Song of the Year for “Live Life Loud.” The song is also available on the video game "Rock Band."
Saturday
Mark Wills: A country veteran at the age of 37, Wills sent 19 songs to the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart between 1996 and 2007, including “19 Somethin’” and a cover of Brian McKnight’s “Back at One.”
The singer’s most recent album, the compilation “2nd Time Around,” arrived in 2009.
