NEW YORK — Sylvia Day vows to protect her fans’ favorite moments when her “Crossfire” erotic romance novels are adapted for television.
The best-selling author of the books following the romance of billionaire Gideon Cross and Eva Trammell is an executive consultant on the TV series optioned by Lionsgate Television. She says she’s in frequent contact with producers and will be on the set for filming, adding, “It’s like I’m the readers’ voice” as the books are transformed for television.
“I’ll review scripts and remind them of things that I know as the writer, being very well connected to the fandom of this series, of iconic things: clothing, lines of dialogue, locations, things that they couldn’t change because readers would immediately revolt,” she says.
“Captivated by You,” the fourth novel in the series, was recently released.
Day says Lionsgate has a director and a showrunner for “Crossfire,” which she anticipates will premiere next year.
“The producers feel that it will take an entire season to explore one of the ‘Crossfire’ novels,” she says.
Producers want to air the series on a premium cable network or a subscriber service like Netflix or Amazon Instant Video, which Day says would be perfect for the sexually explicit romance.
“Of course it’s going to be an erotic story,” says Day. “Does that mean it’s going to be supergraphic? I doubt it’s going to be any more graphic than what you see on ‘Game of Thrones.’”
