Atlantans plea for #MakeSolo2Happen on Twitter

“Star Wars” fans have resumed their plea for a sequel to “Solo: A Star Wars Story.”

On Memorial Day, #MakeSolo2Happen became a trending topic in Atlanta more than two weeks after the Ron Howard-directed flick celebrated the second anniversary of its release on May 10.

Several Twitter users shared their reasons for wanting a follow-up to the origin story of a young Han Solo, including some who felt it would work as a series on Disney +, which exclusively streams the George Lucas-created film series.

This isn't the first time that Twitter users around the globe have made this call. Last year, #MakeSolo2Happen became a trending topic when the movie, which disappointed at the box office in 2018, celebrated its first anniversary. CinemaBlend reported the effort was spurred by Star Wars News Net's "Resistance Broadcast" podcast.

At the time, the film’s director had responded twice to the call for a follow-up to the movie, which also stared metro Atlanta’s own Donald Glover as a young Lando Calrissian.

The first was a simple smiley face while retweeting a photo of the podcast's staff wearing #MakeSolo2Happen shirts. The second came that June when Howard tweeted an appreciative response to a meme urging him to #MakeSolo2Happen.

“i had a great experience on #SolotheMovie Glad you’d like more!” the Oscar-winning director said in a retweet.

That fans have been campaigning for a sequel to the movie for two years shouldn’t come as a surprise. They’re doing what Howard said it would take to make future young Solo adventures happen.

"I think the fans are going to define all of that," he told Fandango. "I mean I think that Lucasfilm and Disney in casting actors, and particularly younger actors, want to see what happens and build upon that. Certainly, they want the commitment from the young actors, but there are no concrete plans. I think there's been a lot of creative energy and now marketing energy going behind this movie."
