Goodbye thigh gap, hello ab crack!

The newest beauty trend being documented on social media is a deep hollow extending from the center of the ribcage down the stomach. Most often it shows up on supermodels and performers who clearly have lots of time for sit-ups and core workouts.

A widely circulated story from Elle Magazine featured several models -- many from the ranks of Victoria's Secret Angels -- flaunting their ab cracks on Instagram.

The images fueled a little social media outrage among regular folks who warily viewed the trend as just another unrealistic beauty standard for women to try to achieve.

Here's a look at some of the most prominent ab cracks on social media:

Just like thigh gap before it -- the space between your thighs when you stand with your feet together -- the ab crack trend has many women (and some men) crying foul.

It seems hard to imagine in this time of body positivity that something which appears to be attainable by a small percentage of people is an accepted trend.

If it follows the lifecycle of the thigh gap, we could be seeing a lot more "how-to's" on getting an ab crack of your very own before it is over.
