DiGiorno still shading Papa John's on Twitter

The pizza war of words moved from the football field to the frozen food aisle when DiGiorno pizza lobbed some pie shaped shade at Papa Johns just after the pizza chain CEO and founder John Schnatter blamed the NFL protests for slumping sales .

On Wednesday during a conference call, Schnatter lashed out at NFL leadership. “The NFL has hurt us by not resolving the current debacle to the players’ and owners’ satisfaction,” Schnatter said Wednesday according to reports from Bloomberg. “NFL leadership has hurt Papa John’s shareholders.”

But the following day, other pizza chains, most notably, Pizza Hut, said their sales figures were looking just fine .

By then, the savvy social media folks at DiGiorno had already taken to Twitter with some choice challenges, and by Friday, the battle was still brewing with many posters pledging their allegiance to the frozen pie maker.

Then came more tweets, some of which were allegedly deleted, at least from Papa John's. DiGiorno was happy to add some more semi-shade to the fire on Friday morning:

It's not the first time DiGiorno has taken to Twitter to throw an insult or two at Papa John's and it surely won't be the last.

Back in the spring, when Papa John's cheekily suggested via Twitter a collaboration with of the moment fashion collective, Vetements, DiGiorno fired off, "Would you be able to deliver something that looked good though?"
