Despite the near freezing temperature, early Wednesday morning a crowd assembled outside the new North Decatur Chick-fil-A at 650 Decatur Village Way which opens on Thursday.

First in line was Christina Sanchez who scored the number one slot for the second time this month. Sanchez was also the first in line at the re-opening of the historic North Druid Hills restaurant.

Rodney Johnson, the franchise owner of the North Decatur restaurant, previously worked as a principal and director of a public charter school in Greenville, S.C. During his eight year tenure, he grew the school from 80 students to 388 students and received several awards for leadership and eduction. But more than a year ago, he decided to take a new direction in his career, he said.

“My research quickly led me to understand that becoming a Chick-fil-A Operator would enable me to meet my professional career goals while continuing my passion around serving the community and mentoring team members,” said Johnson in a statement. “I’m excited this opportunity has led me to the North Decatur community where I can serve customers within our restaurant while developing leaders from my team members and providing opportunities for them to serve beyond our restaurant doors.”

The 4,730-square-foot North Decatur Chick-fil-A restaurant is the newest standalone location in the area. It features all the latest upgrades including a two-story, indoor children’s play area, free Wi-Fi, a 118 seat dining room and 16 outdoor patio seats.
