Jonathan who?
The man who was ousted Monday night from "Dancing With the Stars" was in "Mean Girls" a decade ago but otherwise Jonathan Bennett could hardly be called a "star." So he should be proud he lasted as long as he did.
Now that the show is eliminating people on the same day as the show, tonight's dance does not play into their scores. So Bennett left on a high note.
Last week, unfortunately, he had his weakest dance with a new partner during "switch up" week, a jitterbug with Peta Murgatroyd that featured disastrous lifts and clumsy steps. His fate was sealed.
But he did show plenty of enthusiasm in his dances. He was just a bit one note at times.
At this point, with eight dancers left, three of the four remaining guys appear to be cannon fodder: Tommy Chong, Antonio Sabato Jr. and Michael Waltrip. (Waltrip is clearly pulling in the Middle America/NASCAR vote that kept Bill Engvall in so much last season.)
Of the other five, two have been almost certain locks for the finals since week one: surprising Sadie Robertson and indefatigable Alfonso Ribeiro. If there is a third spot, it could be any of the three ladies: Lea Thompson, Janel Parrish or Bethany Moto.
Len Goodman has been out for a month but he will be back next week. And Erin Andrews was subbed out by Leah Remini since she's covering the World Series.
Here are quick summaries of the dances:
Jonathan Bennett
Dance: Jazz ("Back in Time" Pitbull)
My take: He put together a tight, fairly entertaining routine that was a major improvement over a week earlier.
Judges: Carrie Ann said it was his best dance to date.
Scores: 8's across the board. Total 32 (tie for fifth)
Janel Parrish
Dance: Samba
My take: Solid but not her best.
Judges: Carrie Ann said she was imbalanced and off her game. Pitbull said it lacked passion. Julianne Hough said it was a tough routine.
Scores: Carrie Ann gave an 8 and Julianne and Bruno gave 9s but tough guest judge Pitbull only gave her a 7. Total: 33 (fourth)
Tommy Chong
Dance: Foxtrot
My take: He made a few wrong steps but made it up with energy and verve.
Judges: Carrie Ann said the room loves him. Pitbull says he is the most interesting man in the world. Julianne said the Tommy from week one is back.
Scores: 7s across the board. Total 28 (tie for 8th)
Antonio Sabato Jr.
Dance: Salsa
My take: This was his best dance to date and Cheryl Burke, his partner, covered up his flaws.
Judges: Julianne said he's looser but he got too loose in the upper body. Bruno said he lacked enough hip action. Carrie Ann said he needs to feel it more.
Scores: 7s across the board. Total; 28 (tie for 8th)
Sadie Robertson
Dance: Rumba
My take: Not sexy by any stretch (by choice) but lovely nonetheless
Judges: Julianne said she loved the choreography but said she was a little offbalance. Bruno said it was tasteful, romantic and lyrical but didn't always feel continuous. Carrie Ann said it was gorgeous and age appropriate.
Scores: Carrie gave it a 9, Pitbull a 10 and 8s from Julianne and Carrie Ann. Total: 35 (second)
Lea Thompson
Dance: Salsa
My take: Judges seem way too tough on her. I enjoyed it immensely.
Judges: Bruno said the shoulders were off. Carrie Anne was disappointed. Pitbull liked the sexiness.
Scores: 8s across the board. Total: 32 (tied for fifth)
Michael Waltrip
Dance: Argentine Tango
My take: That dance gave Michael as little to do as possible. He did it cleanly but really, was there much to it?
Judges: They were uber nice to him. Carrie said it was totally vulnerable and somehow, she gave him the same score as Lea. (Huh?) Bruno said he was focused and connected.
Scores: 8s from Carrie Ann and Julianne, 7s from Pitbull and Bruno. Total: 30 (seventh)
Bethany Moto
Dance: Tango
My take: Sharp and sleek.
Judges: Julianne called it pure tango. Bruno said elbow moved up at times but was great. Carrie said it was close to a 10 and it was "ridiculous" in a good way.
Scores: 9s across the board. Total: 36 (second)
Alfonso Ribeiro
Dance: Salsa
My take: Almost great, just very good. He appeared to be hurting a bit with his groin.
Judges: Carrie Ann gave him a totally inappropriate booty hit there.
Scores: Generous 10s from everyone except Julianne, who gave him a 9. Total: 39 (first)
