I'm way late revealing the March radio ratings but here they are. The only major changes were the first full month of the new R&B station Majic 107.5/97.5 and the move of Praise from 97.5 to 102.5. So far, so good, for Radio One, which owns both stations.

Majic debuted in 4th place in the ratings, yet rival Kiss only took a minor hit, staying in third. Praise held up just fine in sixth place.

How do you like Majic 107.5/97.5 so far?

  • I love it! It's a more modern mix of R&B than Kiss
  • I like it but I do miss smooth jazz
  • I prefer Kiss 104.1
  • I don't get it at all.

One other major shift from February was a very strong showing for Fish 104.7. Kevin & Taylor were at No. 6 among 25 to 54 year olds, their best performance since the new measurements came into place last fall.

Looking at the new measurement system, it’s clear that month-to-month gyrations are far less extreme because Arbitron is using more or less the same sample of people every month. The old system had a different sampling each month, then averaged over three months. This consistency is good for everyone because ratings that don’t shift much gives advertisers more comfort that the ratings are legitimate and not arbitrary.

This also makes it easier to see immediate changes in the landscape such as Majic and Praise.
