Fox has renewed its Marvel drama "The Gifted" for a second season.

The show, shot in metro Atlanta, will be airing its two-hour season finale on January 15.

Focused on a family that discovers their kids are mutants, the series has averaged 8.3 million viewers across multiple platforms over a full week of viewing.

Here is Fox's descriptive of the season finale:

Dr. Campbell (guest star Garret Dillahunt) attends the Humanity Today summit, attempting to take the Hound program national, while some of the team at Mutant HQ go on a dangerous mission to stop his efforts. Then, the Mutant HQ comes under attack. With everything to lose, alliances shift and relationships are put to the test.

Fox shoots three shows in metro Atlanta: "The Gifted," "Star" and the upcoming series "The Resident."
