ABC had a successful show called "Wife Swap" for many years where wives of very different ilk (e.g. urban/country, dictatorial/free-spirited) change households for a few days. Tension and hilarity ensue.
CBS on Sundays has taken a twist to that formula and thrown celebrities into the mix. Famous folks swap places with non-famous folks who happen to have the same name as them. Yes, it's called "Same Name."
Fayetteville mom and fiberglass yarn saleswoman Kathy Griffin this Sunday flips lives with "My Life on the D List" comic Kathy Griffin. Here are some comments from the local Griffin:
[UPDATE August 1: The episode can now be watched online here. The comic describes the local Griffin as resembling "Condoleezza Rice married to O.J. Simpson. Yah, we've all been thinking it. Let's cut the crap!"]
Does she ever get confused with the comedienne? "Not so much in person. I'm black and she's white. But over the phone, I'd get, 'Is this the real Kathy Griffin?' I'd say, 'No. I wish I had her money but no.' "
Reality sets in: "It took us a little aback. We have our little house. It's lovely. Then 40 people are crawling all over it. The camera crews, the lighting, the producers. It was a little unnerving. But after an hour, you forget the cameras are there."
Welcome to TMZ land: "When I got off the plane in Los Angeles, it was a zoo. I had this camera crew following me so people started taking pictures of me, thinking I was somebody. It was hilarious."
Hanging with Griffin's gays: "She has a huge gay following. I'm kind of thinking this is going to be a bunch of weirdos. But they are the sweetest, nicest people. I learned not to be so judgmental. They are people who want to be loved, to have friends, just like everybody else."
The comic's domestication skills: "My husband [Gerard] told me she was pathetic as a housewife and cook. She is not domestic or maternal. She has no children. She didn't know how to cut a tomato."
