David Cook has joined the Broadway production of "Kinky Boots."

He will play the role of Charlie Price, the son of a shoe factory owner who reluctantly takes over his father's business. He’ll be at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre starting April 3 through May 5.

This is Cook's first time on Broadway where many other Idols have thrived, including Fantasia, Constantine Maroulis and Diana DeGarmo.

"I love the collaborative aspect of theater, the idea of being part of a creative team and working it out in front of an audience each night," Cook said in a statement. "I can't wait to join this incredible cast in Kinky Boots including the very talented Wayne Brady and Kirstin Maldonado."

"Kinky Boots" has been on Broadway since 2013 and has won several Tonys.

Cook has also released his new EP "Chromance."
