The House and Senate convene at 10 a.m. today.

The Senate will vote on the midyear budget, which has already passed the House. The two chambers will have to work through minor differences before the spending plan for the rest of the fiscal year is final.

The House has a few minor bills on its calendar.

Both chambers have packed committee schedules. The biggest is a 1 p.m. Joint Education House-Senate Committee gathering, where Gov. Nathan Deal’s high-stakes plan to give the state broad new powers to take over failing schools will get its first airing before lawmakers. The bill is expected to be filed Wednesday.
